American actor and musician Awkwafina made her debut with humorous hip-hop tracks that addressed sexual identity and race with a boldly comedic perspective before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Koreans living in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was from the trumpet. Also, she received Jazz and classical training before delving into hip-hop as a teenager. In college, she studied writing and women's studies. She even spent some time learning Mandarin in Beijing. Not until after graduation did she start focusing on music. Her My Vag song, My Vag which was her response to Mickey Avalons My Dick, became a viral hit via the Internet and eventually appeared on her debut album Yellow Ranger. The album also contained was other hits that went viral, including Queef (body-positive) as well as NYC Bitche$1. The song was specifically linked to The Awkwafinas Guide to NYC, her guide to travel in 2015. Apart from having published a book, her other career was as a performer. Alongside early TV shows such as Girl Code and Tawk she was also in films such as Neighbors 2, Storks as well as Bad Rap. The actress made headlines in 2018 with a few notable films like Dude Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP debuted in June.
